Through the Global Fund, this campaign has been able to help victims such as Silvia receive the 2 pills a day to stay alive. Since the campaign makes it so simple to help, it is important to discuss the target audience of the campaign and what products they are purchasing. It is important to note that there is a strict criterion to contribute money to the victims of AID’s through private sector funding and the (RED) campaign is seeking to revolutionize this problem. Currently, a company will create a product with the (RED) logo on it, a consumer will purchase this product and each company will send a percentage to the Global Fund who will in turn help women and children affected by AIDS. BUT, if Africans do not meet the Global Funds requirements, their funding is cut off and they will possibly have to pay back the money donated to them. This means that 100% of the money donated from the sale of (RED) products that is donated to the Global Fund who purchase the two pills a day needed for the AIDS victims to survive would be cut off and expected to be paid back. So, it is important to know that not only is (RED) using their campaign to donate the money, they are also making strides in changing how the funding for the Global Fund operates. It is important to discuss how the Global Fund impacts how this campaign works.
The Global Fund is one of the most well known social funds to fight diseases such as AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The Global Fund, although it is an independent private foundation directed by an international board, works in partnership with each countries government. Importantly, it is precisely a board for funding these countries with the money donated (Ponte et al, 2009). Lastly, as I have stated previously, the Global Fund in conjunction with the (RED) campaign is looking to end mother-to-child HIV transmission by 2015.
